Summer Rules

Our beautiful, strong, and inspiring daughter, Izzy, graduated from high school and is off to Queen’s University in the fall!

Let’s Go! The geese have flown North! School is out for summer and there is much to celebrate!

Each new season comes with changes. Ugh, I find myself yearning for spring’s routine. Yet, I know summer is a gift. My birthday is in July, and with change comes opportunity, and with opportunity comes growth!

For some, summer is a change in location, a different bed to sleep in (or many different beds), time driving and traveling, lugging luggage.  Summer can present the gifts and conflicts of family under one roof.  If you have school-age children, summer may include the constant need to find fun, cool and maybe even, dare I say, “educational” ways to fill the days.  Or maybe, summer is simply having extra time at the end of the day to play before watching the sun go down.  Perhaps it’s all of the above!

My mother died 15 years ago on the summer solstice.  That was a difficult summer to say the least.  She had been wrestling with dementia. She didn’t go down without a fight. That summer, I found solace listening to the chantings of Buddhist monks. Rarely able to sleep through the night, I bonded with the moon over brownies and straight scotch. Now, having not touched a drink since January 2016, this summer’s challenge is to address excess and the hold sugar has on me! I covet chocolate!

The journey of life is full of CHANGE. Welcome these changes, embrace them, invite them in—they are all opportunities to grow!

It’s been a while since I last connected with you here and we have lots to catch up on! Last year we converted a garage into a boutique hot yoga room (steps from the Dartmouth Green) which we launched shortly afterwards. It continues to gain momentum and the community is blossoming.  It’s shockingly fun to offer private and semi-private classes at  “Yogalicious Hanover”, reconnecting with old students and meeting new ones.  All of you care for so many, and juggle so much and we are here to help you take care of yourself!  Classes can be booked online here#bendsoyoudontbreak

Never stop learning and growing! Adding to my Bikram Beginner Yoga Series Certification in 2016, and continuing my dedication to the Ghosh Linage, I completed Tony Sanchez’s 26+ Teacher Training!

Our family has made the annual pilgrimage to Canada! I’ve way overpacked (who needs all this stuff?!), yet no sugar. I’m hungry for the heat, the longer days, sleeping in, not wearing a watch, and, most of all, being embraced by the deliciously healing waters of Georgian Bay.

“Yogalicious Ojibway” will be offering rejuvenating classes three days a week at the Ojibway Club Latitude: 45° 33' 39.60" N Longitude: -80° 30' 14.40" W Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:30AM-1PM starting this coming Monday, July 1! No sign-up necessary—walk-ins welcome! Check out the playlist for next week’s opening class here!

We’re also available for privates and pop-ups at your cottage, dock or on the rocks! Did anyone say “Paddle Board Yoga Rendezvous”?!

Why practice yoga?  To a have better life experience.  To find balance and strength amidst the changes and challenges of life.

No matter what your summer plans entail this year, practice movement! Picture yourself walking, swimming, stepping onto the mat, feeling energized as you move through rejuvenating yoga poses, it’s all medicine and our bodies crave it! #bendsoyoudontbreak

Take time this season to walk barefoot, jump in the water, watch a vivid sunset or an eagle returning to her nest, pause to notice the symmetry of nature.

Be kind—you never know what people are going through. We all have our own challenges, regardless of the season.

Celebrate the big and little things. Embrace the longer days. Feel all the feels. Pause to find Stillness. Less is more. #itsallyoga

Hope this helps you find your summer stride. The light in me sees the light in you, namaste.

Maggie
